The Feira

We took a trip to the feira (street market) yesterday. Every day they have these in different areas. On Friday there is one near us. They block off a street, and for that day it is a market. It is quite an experience. The vendors are yelling trying to get you to buy their products. I didn't understand much of anything, but even Jeremy didn't understand some of what they were saying. It is very cheap to buy produce at the feira. We stocked up on fresh fruit and vegetables. Now I have to learn how to prepare them! The kids are enjoying the fresh fruit.

We took a short video so you can get a feel of what it is like (although you need to imagine smelling all the fruit and vegetables, and the fresh meat stand down the way to make it more authentic!)

They sell about everything you can imagine. There are even booths of clothes, purses, kitchen items, and also pirated DVDs and CDs.

Plenty of bananas to choose from...all shapes and sizes!

We bought some oranges from this guy since he let us take his picture. He gave us a few extra oranges to take to the "gringos."

We got two dozen oranges for under $1. We paid less than $2.5o for three pineapple. Lemons were about $.50 for about 20. I can't remember all the prices of everything we bought, but it is definitely cheaper than the store. This will probably become part of our routine on Fridays!

  1. I LOVE shopping in open markets. Especially the ones where you can bargain - it's like a sense of achievement to get a good deal. (Even though since you don't speak the language, you're probably still getting charged more than the locals! haha)

  2. Oh wow! Incredible! I could hear you say "You'll have to look at me, I can't hear you." It was so noisy! Thanks for sharing this. I love keeping up with you. And thank you so much for the prayers. I think of you all often!!
