Update on Our Car

Most of you who read this probably already saw on Facebook, that our car was hit a few weeks ago. It was parked in front of our house on the street, because we had washed out the front garage and were letting it dry before putting the car back in there. I was out back in the laundry area when I heard a crash and a car alarm going off. I went in to the house and asked Jeremy if our car was still on the street and we both got that feeling that something had happened to it. Just as we arrived at the front gate, the neighbor lady was arriving at the gate to tell us that our car had indeed been hit. She was sweeping the sidewalk and saw it happen.

Luckily for us, the guy who hit the car was responsible and honest enough to stop and admit what he did, and give us all his contact information.  He could have very easily driven away and we never would have found out who did it. We are praising the Lord for this. The guy was evidently answering the cell phone, and not watching the road.

His car didn't receive too much damage, and at a glance ours doesn't look too bad. But he hit the back left corner of our car pretty hard. The back bumper is broken and the trunk is crumpled a little and doesn't close right. The back left panel was pushed forward, preventing the back door from functioning right and also the driver's door is not opening right. We were still able to drive it a little after securing the back door, but there is something wrong causing the battery to die every time it sits for very long.

We are very thankful that the guy had insurance, and they will take care of having our car repaired. It has become, however (like most "official" things here in Brazil) a long process. It took a week after the accident for the insurance company to look at the car. Then they determined what they would fix, and ordered the parts for it themselves. The body shop said they should be able to start working on the car on Monday. They are estimating that it will take sixteen work days to complete the job!

While this is a definite inconvenience, we know that it could be worse. No one was injured, and eventually everything should be cared for. Maybe the car will turn out better than it was before!! It's hard to understand why things like this happen. We have to trust the Lord and remember that all things work together for good.

Here are a few pictures of the car. It really doesn't look too bad, especially in pictures, but I guess whether it is messed up a little or a lot, they still have to order all the parts and straighten everything out, which takes time and money.

This is in the trumk. The fold you see up and down should not be there.
