A Wedding

Saturday was Valentine's Day here in Brazil, and we attended a wedding. I had never been to a wedding here before, so it was an interesting experience. The wedding was supposed to start at 6:30, but usually the bride arrives late. And she did. So the wedding actually started a little after 7:00.  The bride and groom choose couples to be their "bridemaids and groomsmen" instead of individuals. This wedding had ALOT of couples. Also, the bride and groom go the "city hall" before the wedding, so the ceremony is really just a ceremony, because they are already legally married! Photographers here are very aggressive. There was a video camera a few feet from the bride's face the whole time. I don't think I could handle that! The other photographers moved all around during the ceremony, to get the shots they wanted.

At the reception there are many different customs. One of them is that they "sell" pieces of the groom's tie to the men at the reception, and give the money to the couple for the honeymoon.

This guy (behind the curtain) didn't want them to find him

 But they did!

Judson spent most of the evening like this
He was afraid of "the big lady." Evidently he hadn't seen anyone shaped quite like this bride's puffy white dress! We hope he's not traumatized for life! He kept saying, "She's fat!" Good thing she didn't speak English! That's not really what a bride wants to hear on her wedding day. He was a little confused. After the ceremony, he said, "I liked it when the girl with the red flowers (aka the bride) found her daddy (aka the groom).

It was a fun experience!

Feliz Dia dos Namorados!

  1. That is so funny! The guy behind the curtain ... what was the deal with that? Did he not have any money?
GOOD thing she didn't speak English! Thanks for giving me a good laugh before bed tonight!
