Another Step Closer

Since our trip to Ouro Preto last week, we were waiting and praying about what we should do. We saw a few houses that would have worked for us, but we didn’t have peace about them, so we decided to just wait.

We talked all week about the different houses, the pros and cons, the prices, and all the details trying to think about what would be best for us to do. We came to the conclusion that there was one house that we thought would best meet our needs all around. The only problem was that the owner was asking about R$200 (about US$100) more than we were willing to pay.  On Monday, Jeremy decided he would call and see if she would come down R$200 to the price we felt peace about. (Customarily rent here in Brazil is negotiable.)

Jeremy finally got in touch with the owner on Monday afternoon, and told her that we were interested in the house. He asked a few questions, because we had actually only seen in through the windows but hadn’t gone into the house. She then quoted him the rent $R200 cheaper than she had originally told us. I don’t know if we misunderstood her the first time, or if she changed the price, but either way, we felt at peace that the Lord was leading us to this house. He told her he would make the trip down and be there on Tuesday morning to close the deal.

When he arrived mid-morning, she told him that there were at least two other people who were waiting to see the house that day, but she held them off until noon, and if he hadn’t arrived by then, she would show it to them. I think that the Lord held the house just for us! Jeremy was able to do all the paperwork necessary, pay the deposit, and get the water and electric put into our name and return home the same day with the keys in hand.  I'll be sure to post pictures later!

We are anxious to finally be able to settle down and unpack everything. The boys are excited to get out the rest of their toys that they haven’t seen in almost a year. However, it won’t be easy to leave here. We love the church people here, and we will truly miss them. I hope that we will have the opportunity to visit often.

Thank you to those who prayed for us about finding a house.  We will probably not be making the move for 2-3 weeks. We now need to locate a truck and arrange to have all our things moved. I hope this will be the last time in a good long while!
