I decided to get adventurous this week and try to make homemade English muffins. We don't get them here, and I am always looking for new ideas for breakfast foods.
I have two recipes. One of them is an all day process of kneading, letting rise, kneading, letting rise, cutting, letting rise, etc. The other recipe you mix up, cut out, let rise for an hour and cook. Guess which one I chose? Yep, the quick and simple won my affection. It was an easy process, and I loved that you bake them on the skillet and not in the oven. My kitchen has been warm enough these days without turning on my oven to 400 degrees!
They didn't look perfect. (It's really hard to move fluffy dough and still keep it a nice perfect circle!) They didn't taste exactly like the ones you buy in the store. They were a little heavy, but they were really good! Maybe someday I'll try the all-day process and see if they are any more authentic, but for now, this is a great option for another breakfast!
Next on my "want to try to make" list...bagels!

Neat... they look tasty:)
ReplyDeleteOh Amanda, I've been wanting to try both English muffins and bagels, but I've not attempted either one. Were the muffins worth it? If the bagels turn out well, let me know - they're my favorite :)
ReplyDeletePatty - I think these were worth it because they were pretty quick and easy. Depends on how "authentic" you want them to be. Maybe when it cools down a little I'll try the bagels and then I'll let you know about them!
