You know you are an MK if.....

Life can be very different for a missionary kid (MK) at times. Our kids have only experienced the deputation phase of missionary life, but that in itself has been quite an adventure for them. Most of it has been great, and the Lord has given us opportunities that we would not have had otherwise.

Judson was 5 weeks old when we started deputation so all he knows is spending alot of time in the car seat, sleeping in alot of different places, and being in alot of different nurseries. He has done well (for the most part). There are some long days when we can't hardly get him back in his car seat after stopping for a break.

Jonathan doesn't mind being in different places all the time. He has never met a stranger in his life, so he just enjoys whatever comes his way. I'll never forget the time he couldn't remember where the bathroom was...and we were at home! However, we had moved twice in 6 months and had been traveling from place to place on top of that, so cut him a little slack!

Josiah is much like me in so many ways, and he likes the security and comfort of home and familiar things. I think that deputation has been good for him (and me!) in that there has been no choice but to try new things and make new friends.

What got me thinking about all that was something that happened in church Sunday. Josiah was sitting in church with us and drawing pictures on some paper. He drew several pictures that were all very similar. They were buildings with lots of windows. Then he put a sign next to it that read Dayz In (aka Days Inn). Then he asked me to write Sleep Inn on one. That's when I realized that while many children might draw a nice scene of a house and a tree, my children draw hotels! A true missionary kid on deputation!

  1. I'm so glad Jeremy made it safely!! Praise the Lord. Were you nervous until you heard from him? I always am when Terry's traveling. But then, I am a nut! :D
No, it's not hard at all to change the template! If it were, I wouldn't do it!:] The hardest part was picking one because they have over 200 at this new site I found.
    I'll email you about it!

  2. We can sooo relate! My kids still ask if we can go to the motel???? And...McDonalds is a favorite that we don't get to visit as often! When we first got here, Marshall didn't like being in one place, but he has adjusted nicely.
